League loyalty for vice chancellor post
Thiruvananthapuram: Mahatma Gandhi University pro-vice chancellor Sheena Shukkur’s admission of loyalty and gratitude to Indian Union Muslim League at a function in the UAE has come in the wake of her being listed among the Calicut vice-chancellor probables.
She created a controversy claiming, while inaugurating a family meet organised by Cheruvathoor Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC) in Dubai recently, that she and her spouse got government bungalow and car for standing under the green flag of the IUML
Sources said that Ms Shukkoor was trying to please IUML leadership with her loyalty in a bid to outsmart other contenders like Kerala State Higher Education Council member secretary P. Anvar and Kerala University registrar K. Mohammed Basheer.
The Calicut University vice chancellor post has been earmarked to the IUML by the UDF. The search committee constituted to select the vice-chancellor is set to meet here on September 15.
The search committee comprised S. A. Bari, vice-chancellor of Central University of Gujarat who is the UGC nominee, Syed Abid Hussain Thangal, syndicate member, and Calicut University as senate nominee and chief secretary Jiji Thomson as Governor’s nominee.
The term of Calicut University former vice-chancellor M. Abdul Salam that ended recently was marred by controversies.
MG University vice-chancellor Babu Sebastian was conducting an inquiry into the allegations against Ms Shukkur on the basis of the direction from Governor P. Sathasivam, who is also the chancellor of the universities in the state.
