Afsan Jabeen motivated by ideology of ISIS
Hyderabad: Afsan Jabeen alias Nickey Joseph, who was deported from Dubai for allegedly trying to recruit youngsters to join global terror outfit ISIS, had motivated two other youngsters from Kashmir and Delhi.
Jabeen was in touch with the duo till recently through Facebook and had asked them to come to Dubai, from where they can go to Syria and join Daesh militant group, investigation officials revealed.
“Jabeen had several consistent online conversations with the two youngsters belonging to Kashmir and Delhi. She encouraged them to come to Dubai, from where she would send them to Syria,” said a senior official from Cyberabad. However the plan did not work out, the official added.
Jabeen, who was active on Facebook with different discussion groups, became more cautious and started having more discreet chats with the two youngsters. She also had deleted one of the FB groups after the arrest of Salman.
Probing officials said that they have not got evidence of Jabeen getting funds from the IS militant group, and added that she was highly motivated by the ideology. “She seemed to be having strong ideological motivation to conduct recruitment on her own. However, there could be members from the terror outfit to guide her,” an official said.
Jabeen, 38 year-old, has three daughters. She had gone to Dubai on housemaid visa and procured a family visa during the stay with her husband Devender Batra alias Mustafa, who is a native of Himayathnagar.
Her husband and three daughters, who were students in Dubai, were also deported along with her. The police said that her family members have no connection with her activity.
Officials, who interrogated Jabeen, said that she remained tight lipped throughout questioning. “It was really tough to get her to talk. She has been denying each and every allegation,” said a senior official.
The police have now sent her to judicial remand after producing her before a court. “We will seek her custody from court to interrogate her further. She is currently lodged in Cherlapally Jail,” said Shamshabad DCP A. R. Srinivas said.
Jabeen’s role came to light after US educated Salman was arrested at RGI Airport by the Cyberabad police months ago.
