200 old bridges in Karnataka to be repaired
Davangere: Public works department minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa said the state government has decided to repair 200 old bridges situated across the state with financial assistance from HUDCO.
He told reporters at Kukkavada, near here on Saturday, that the government had developed about 5000 km of roads under the state highway development project and was planning to upgrade about 11000 kms in Karnataka.
Commenting on sand scarcity in the state, Dr. Mahadevappa attributed the shortage to gap between demand and mining of sand. Therefore, the government was encouraging M-sand for construction of buildings.
Mining of sand in violation of law during the previous state government was the main reason for shortage of sand across the state, he added.
He said the state government was working for uplift of the backward classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
It was a pro people’s government, and not one interesting in passing on benefits to people of a particular community or a group, the minister added.
