Railway inspector Narasimha Raju said Ms Rathna was on way to Chennai
Nellore: S.M. Rathna, deputy director at the AP Police Academy at Hyderabad, was injured grievously when an unidentified person attacked her and robbed gold ornaments and cash when she was travelling in the Simhapuri Express from Secunderabad to Gudur on Saturday morning.
Railway inspector Narasimha Raju said Ms Rathna was on way to Chennai. She had a reservation on the Charminar Express but she missed the train at Hyderabad. She purchased a general ticket to travel in the next train, which was the Simhapuri Express, and boarded a coach meant for physically handicapped after finding the ladies compartment overcrowded.
Railway staff told her to continue in the train up to Gudur and catch the Pinakini Express. However, that train had left a few minutes earlier. Almost everyone in the coach alighted at Nellore except a 25-year-old person who boarded the train at Ongole.
When the train started again, he attacked the officer, tied her up with her chunni and beat her when she resisted. He stole a gold chain, two bangles and two rings weighing about 68 grams apart from her ID cards and tickets and alighted before Gudur station.Ms Rathna managed to free herself and reported the matter to the railway police and Gudur DSP Srinivas at the station.
