5-year plan to happiness
A. Rajeswara Rao’s work are loved by all age groups as he delivers a mix of something old and new. And despite having been the recipient of many awards, the artist still believes that he has a long way to go.
Q.When was your first art show? When did you sell your first artwork?
I have been painting since I was a young boy and I have taken part in many shows. But the first important show of my career was in Pundole Art Gallery, Mumbai in 1991, soon after my postgraduation. My first artwork was sold to Dadiba Pundole. He had come to my studio to discuss about a solo show and that’s when he bought the artwork.
Q.What inspires you?
My biggest inspiration has been the time I worked under Laxma Goud as a postgraduation student at HCU.
Q.Turning point in life?
It has to be the time when I came to Hyderabad from Visakhapatnam to pursue my PG and then decided to stay here. Also, the solo show at the esteemed Sakshi Gallery in Mumbai.
Q.Any regrets?
I sometimes think that maybe I should have moved to Delhi or Mumbai. The cities have a much wider and enlightened audience when it comes to art. They also offer a better platform for artists. But then I am not really very ambitious... materialistically. I am happy working in my studio.
Q.Where do you see yourself five years from now?
I believe in working with conscientiousness and sincerity. I’m sure that five years from now, I will be a happier person. That’s because I have many ideas I’m working on, which I will be delivering from time to time.
