Character roles brought me recognition: Rahul Madhav
After a stellar performance in Dulquer Salmaan-starrer 100 Days of Love, actor’s meaty role as a police officer Janardhan has been appreciated
Malayalam-based actor Rahul Madhav, who was recently seen in Jayam Ravi-Arvind Swami-starrer Thani Oruvan, is on a roll. After a stellar performance in Dulquer Salmaan-starrer 100 Days of Love, the actor’s meaty role as a police officer Janardhan has been widely appreciated. “Even before I debuted in Malayalam movies, I had auditioned for a role in Karthi’s Paiyya.
But it didn’t materialise due to certain reasons,” says Rahul and adds, it was his friends Sundar and Subbu Ram, from Tamil cinema, who referred his name to director Mohan Raja. Mohan Raja zeroed in on him after watching his Malayalam films. Speaking about Thani Oruvan, Rahul says it was a delight for him to work with the big names in Kollywood. “What comes to my mind is the time spent with these stars behind the camera. I would say we had a great time shooting for the film. Jayam Ravi used to help me with the dialogues and narrate his own experiences off the sets,” he tells us. Heaping praises on Arvind Swami, Rahul says, he’s quite cool and down-to-earth. “I used to have an assistant holding an umbrella for me but Aravind Swami used to shoot in the hot sun refusing the umbrella, leaving me feeling embarrassed. His humility is so endearing,” he smiles. Speaking about Nayanthara, he says, she’s a thorough professional. “She comes to the sets on time. She’s disciplined and makes others comfortable. I learnt a lot from her,” adds Rahul. Though he has acted as a hero, Rahul says, character roles helped him become popular. “I don’t want to take up any role just for the sake of playing the lead. I am aware of the fact that a movie’s success rests entirely on the hero’s shoulders. So, only when I am confident that I can guarantee a measure of safety for the producer, I will do it,” he says. Rahul’s biggest well-wisher is actor Prithviraj, about whom Rahul says, “Prithviraj is an actor whom I look up to and I hope to be like him one day. He has encouraged me a lot, which has made me aim higher in life,” he says. Rahul has a couple of Malayalam films and a Kannada film in his kitty.
