BBMP mayoral poll: Independents get lucky, land top panel posts
BENGALURU: The 12 standing committees, especially the Taxation and Finance committee, form the crucial arms that run the BBMP. Seven Independents, who helped the Congress and JD(S) win the mayoral elections, bagged majority of chairman’s posts.
Although five of them are political novices, the tricky mandate gave them a golden opportunity to hold these posts. Each committee will have 11 members from all the three parties. Some of the subjects would be discussed at the committees before being sent to the Council. Some of the crucial committees, town planning, major works, health, ward level works and markets, all rest with independents.
Mr M. Shiavaraju and Ms G. Padmavathi are experienced corporators and hold Taxation and Finance Committee and Education committees respectively.
