Missing Sri Chaitanya Junior College student ends life in Hyderabad
A case of suspicious death was registered under IPC Section 174
Hyderabad: A second year Intermediate student of Sri Chaitanya Junior College, who had been missing since Thursday, allegedly committed suicide on Friday by jumping in front of a train.
E. Navya, 17, of BJR Nagar, Shamirpet, had left home at about 11 am on Thursday without informing her mother, Ms Shobha Rani, who thought she had left for college. However, she later found her daughter’s college bag at home. Police said Navya had an argument at home over wearing a t-shirt to college.
The college staff called her home to find out why she was absent. “When we called on Thursday to know the reason for her absence, her mother said she was sick,” said college administrator Ravikiran. The call was made at 9.40 am. “When we called today, her mother said they were going to a family function,” he said.
When Navya did not return by Thursday evening, Ms Rani informed her brother-in-law Anjaneyulu Chary who lives nearby, as Navya’s father was not in the city. Navya did not have a cellphone.
After searching for the whole night, they went to the college on Friday to trace her. While her parents were still at the college, they received a call, which they disconnected after stating that they were at the college and would talk later. “We went back home and after more than an hour, police called and informed us about the death of our child,” said Mr Anjaneyulu Chary.
“A linemen, who saw the body lying on the tracks between Lallaguda and Malkajgiri railway stations, informed us. We could identify the girl with the help of her bus pass near her body,” said Secunderabad Government Railway Police inspector A. Anjaneyulu.
A case of suspicious death was registered under IPC Section 174 and the body was handed over to the family after post-mortem. Navya was the eldest of three daughters of Mr Srinivasa Chary, a carpenter, and Ms Shobha Rani, a home maker.
She was said to be an active girl in studies and at home and was suffering from a thyroid problem. Of her sisters, Bhavya is a Class X student and Divya is studying in Class VII.
