2 Indians among 100 killed in crane crash at Mecca's Grand Mosque: MEA
New Delhi: Two Indians have been killed and 15 others injured in the crane collapse at the Grand Mosque in Mecca in which more than 100 people have died, the External Affairs Ministry said on Saturday.
External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said Indian officials from the Indian Consulate in Jeddah have been on the ground and have set up a 24X7 helpline to provide information and assistance.
They have been monitoring the situation through the night, Swarup said.
"Regrettably we have been informed that 2 Indians have been killed in the unfortunate accident," he said.

"We have received reports that 15 Indians have been injured and are being assisted in various hospitals. These include 11 from the Haj Committee of India and 4 from Private Tour Operators," External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson said.
Over 100 people died when a massive construction crane crashed into Mecca's Grand Mosque yesterday with scores more injured, days before the annual haj pilgrimage.
A part of the massive crane collapsed as a result of strong winds and heavy rains, media reports said.
Indian woman who lost her life in Mecca
A woman from West Bengal is among those killed in the crane collapse at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Saturday.
"As of now, one death and two injuries have been reported from our state. Muniza Ahmed from Asansol has lost her life. Liakat Hossain from West Midnapore and Hasem Ali from Malda have received injuries," the chief minister said in a Facebook post.
West Bengal State Haj Committee officials said the two injured from the state had received minor injuries and were given first-aid treatment.
"They are fine and only needed a basic first-aid. We are in constant touch with the authorities there," said, Mutalib Ali Sardar, executive officer of the committee.
Expressing shock and sadness at the tragic accident at Mecca, she said a round the clock control room in Haj House has been opened and a toll free helpline 18003457155 put into operation to help people.
"Contact is being made with relatives of dead and injured for all help and support. My deep condolence to the bereaved families. I also wish speedy recovery of the injured. We are with all of them," Banerjee said.
