Fatwa issued against AR Rahman and Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi

The group has reportedly written to Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai: Raza Academy, a Sunni Muslim group based in Mumbai has reportedly issued a fatwa against music director A R Rahman and Iranian filmmaker Maij Majidi.

According to media reports, Rahman and Majidi are working on a film titled ‘Muhammad: Messenger of God’. Raza Academy believes the film contains blasphemous content, and should not be screened.

The group has reportedly written to Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, and Home Minister Rajnath Singh, and the chief of the group will also be meeting Singh and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to discuss the same.

Reports also state that the fatwa urges Muslims to protest against the film as it mocks Islam, and there shouldn’t be any kind of visual representation of the Prophet. It also states that non-Islamic actors have been cast to play pivotal roles in the film.

Majid Majidi is a renowned Iranian filmmaker, popular for his films like ‘Children of heaven’, ‘Baran’ and ‘The Color of Paradise’.
