Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Thursday claimed that the suicide of farmer N. Limbaiah on Wednesday was due to ill-health and not due to crop failure or debts.
Limbaiah, a resident of Ramareddy village in Nizamabad district, had committed suicide at Lower Tank Bund on Wednesday.
The three-member committee set up to inquire into the suicide incident stated on Thursday that Limbaiah and his family owned six acres of land in Ramareddy and the crops sown by them were in good condition.
The committee also stated that Limbaiah was covered under the loan waiver scheme and his financial condition was reported to be fair and he would even lend money to others in the village.
The inquiry stated that Limbaiah’s elder son was ill had been admitted at a Hyderabad hospital a few days back. Limbaiah himself was apparently suffering from a serious ailment for eight years.
Limbaiah and his wife were also getting Rs 2,000 per month as pensions under the welfare schemes of state government. His father also gets Rs 1,000 per month as pension.
Debt killed him, say kin
Even as the government stated that N. Limbaiah, who ended his life in Hyderabad, was not debt-stricken, Congress leaders turned up at his residence in Ramareddy village in Sadashivnagar mandal of Nizamabad district with a Rs 1 lakh financial assistance and an offer of more help.
Limbaiah’s wife Lakshmi said financial burden had forced her husband to end his life. Limbadri has six acres in Ramareddy. Three acres are barren. On the other three acres, a tenant farmer is cultivating soyabean, sugarcane and paddy
