Investors prefer healthcare capital

The cost of heart surgeries has come down from $5,000 to $3,000 over the past decade
CHENNAI: Chennai is now a global healthcare capital and because of this reason Tamil Nadu will continue to be a safe place for investors, Apollo hospitals chairman Pratap C. Reddy told Deccan Chronicle on the sidelines of Global Investors Meet here.
Showering laurels on the state for providing health care infrastructure, he recalled that the top brass of Ford India when they wanted to invest first enquired whether there were adequate quality hospitals in Chennai.
And today, they are tripling their investments. Any investor would look for health care and Chennai is now leader with several corporate and multi-specialty government hospitals.
The cost of heart surgeries has come down from $5,000 to $3,000 over the past decade. Now, there is no need for a person to travel abroad looking for the best health care.
Foreigners are coming to India, he said and the next target is to address the growing non communicable diseases and ensure that quality healthcare is afforded to all.
He also said 10 years from now India due to its medical experts and surgeons will dominate the global health industry and pointed that country will also heavily pay on its medical expense due to escalating lifestyle diseases surging among Indians.
