Woman has breast-sized tumour removed from her back after 10 years
A woman who had a breast-sized tumour on her back, finally got rid of it via a surgical procedure after several years. The 46-year-old was treated at a clinic in Dublin, according to the Daily Mail.
The doctors, who recorded the case in a medical journal, said that they found the ‘impressive’ mass firm to touch rather than tender upon examination. The woman told that it had been growing for as long as ten years, but that its growth accelerated in the last three. The tumour was measured to be 19cm in length and 6.7cm wide.
Fortunately the growth was non-cancerous. This benign tumour of fat cells is known as lipoma. Dr Tunde Abdulsalam, who is the co-author of the report, told the Daily Mail that this was one of the biggest lipomas he had ever seen. He added that, “From my clinical experience most lipomas are small in size. And most patients frequently leave it alone because it is relatively stable for years and does not affect bodily function.”
This case was published in the BMJ Case Reports.
