Apple 2015: A plethora of gadgets, computing and entertainment

Apple unveiled a series of products and updates at the Keynote event in San Francisco

Apple unveiled a series of products and updates at the Keynote event in San Francisco on September 9, 2015. Tim Cook took centre stage to unveil a monster iPad, two new iPhones and updates to the Apple Watch, Apple TV.

Apple iPhone 6s: The 2015 iPhone is named as the iPhone 6s rather than what the world expected it to be—the iPhone 7. Well, the iPhone 6s seems to be an upgraded version of the iPhone 6, which carries the same design, look and body. It sports a 4.7-inch (1334x750) display with 3D Touch, an Apple 64-bit A9 chipset, a 12MP iSight camera and a 5MP front camera. The operating system will include iOS 9, and the iPhone 6S will be available in three variants—16GB, 64GB and 128GB.

Apple iPhone 6s Plus: The 2015 larger iPhone is named as the iPhone 6s Plus. Similar to the iPhone 6s, the Plus is also an upgraded version of the iPhone 6 Plus, which carries the same design, look and body. It sports a 5.5-inch (1920x1080) display with 3D Touch, an Apple 64-bit A9 chipset, a 12MP iSight camera and a 5MP front camera. The operating system will include iOS 9 and the iPhone 6S Plus will also be available in three variants—16GB, 64GB and 128GB.

Apple Watch: Apple has updated the operating system on the first version of the Watch with watchOS 2. The Watch will feature the same hardware and design, but will have added accessories to its list. watchOS 2 has been redefined with additional features and watch faces. The new Watch can handle a lot more than before, from fun to health and communication to control.

Apple TV: Finally after a few years, Apple has paid some heed to the long-forgotten Apple TV. The streaming box has received a huge update with an all-new Bluetooth remote (including IR, Accelerometer and gyroscope). It now features a touchpad and a microphone to speak to Siri. Yes, you heard right—Apple threw in Siri so that you can now talk to your TV and ask Siri to help you with your favourite videos and movies. The new Apple TV also gets a hardware update from within with an A8 64-bit chipset and comes in two variants—32GB and 64GB. The Apple TV is aimed to enter the gaming segment, redefining the television experience with entertainment and gaming, apart from music and photos.

iPad Pro: Apple has gone big—seriously, they showed-off an all-new mammoth iPad measuring a whopping 12.9-inches with a 2K display resolution. Sadly, the iPad Pro gets a A9X chipset which is predicted to be as fast as a desktop processor and can easily handle onboard high-definition video editing and graphics-heavy applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Autocad and Anatomy. The iPad Pro sports an 8MP rear camera, 1.2MP front camera, Touch ID (fingerprint sensor) a 10-hour battery life and built-in dual-stereo speakers that are said to be super loud. Sadly, the iPad Pro does not feature the much talked about 3D Touch display panel. But instead, it can be used with a new stylus called Apple Pencil and a physical keyboard accessory, the Apple Keyboard.

iPad Mini 4: Apple has made the iPad Mini obsolete and kept the entry-level iPad as the Mini 2. The Mini 4 has received a huge hardware update with the powerful Apple A8 processor under a 7.9-inch 2048x1536 display panel and is available in three variants—16GB, 64GB and 128GB. The cameras get an 8MP on the rear and a 1.2MP on the front.

Apple Pencil: Specifically meant for the iPad Pro, Apple has launched the active, intelligent stylus for precision and control. The Pencil allows the user to draw with precision, creating thin lines with regular pressure to thicker lines on additional pressure on the display panel. The tilt sensors within the stylus also allow the creating charcoal effects. The Pencil has a built-in battery with a 12-hour life span and can be recharged directly from the iPad itself.

Apple Smart Keyboard: Again, built specially for the iPad Pro, the Smart Keyboard allows you to switch between a physical keyboard and the soft onscreen keyboard. The new physical keyboard doubles as a protection sleeve and opens up into a stand and keyboard when you need it to be used for text-heavy applications. The Keyboard is built with a durable custom-woven fabric which adds to the spring effect for each key. The fabric is water and stain-resistant to prevent damage. The keyboard does not operate on any additional power not connects wirelessly. The iPad Pro features the Smart Connector on the left edge, which are three magnetic connectors that intelligently transport power and data. Simply docking the iPad on the keyboard connects them together.
