We have to rebuild, says Virat Kohli
It takes a lot to make a team. I have always enjoyed my cricket, said Kohli
New Delhi: Indian cricket has seen an overhaul in the last few years following the departure of stalwarts like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid and not to forget Mahendra Singh Dhoni quitting the longer format of the game as well. Virat Kohli, the new man at the helm in Test cricket, took a step in the right direction with a 2-1 away series win over Sri Lanka — their first in 22 years — and the 26-year-old is keen to build on it.
“It takes a lot to make a team. I have always enjoyed my cricket and the added responsibility of captaincy has given me extra motivation. It is very exciting for me to see that the guys are hungry and want good results. We have to re-establish ourselves as a team. I want to take Indian cricket to a different level,” said Kohli.
Refusing to talk about the Ishant Sharma controversy — the pacer has been banned for one Test for his aggressive behaviour during the Sri Lanka series — Kohli said he was a players’ captain. “It’s not that I call the shots all the time or take all decisions. It is a collective effort. Everyone is thinking at the same time. I take inputs and it makes my job a bit easier,” he said.
