Suicide: Helplines see rise in distressed calls in Hyderabad
Love affairs led to 21 per cent of the calls
Hyderabad: Distress calls with ‘severe suicide tendencies’ account for 23 per cent of the calls received at the Helpline centers in the city.
Financial issues leading to such suicidal thoughts formed 33 per cent while failed love affairs led to 21 per cent of the calls. Dr. Geeta Challa, senior psychologist, at Life Help Center explained, “Such suicides are happening because of inability to adjust to the economic, religious and different family backgrounds; aspects which are not considered before marriage. While Helpline centers are getting calls, it takes a lot of effort to make some patients come face-to-face and seek help. Another major reason is the inability to cope up with the stress of examinations.
