Karnataka: Dasara to be a local affair this year
Mysuru: Drought and farmer suicides are sure to cast a shadow on the Dasara celebrations this year. For instance, the Naada Habba will have the participation of only local artists and so will the cultural programmes, procession and even the tableaux.
Earlier, Naada Habba had the participation of troupes from different districts. This year, Dasara Executive Committee has decided to involve troupes in Mysuru only. As for the tableaux, different departments in Mysuru are being asked to come up with tableaux on their schemes.
Even cultural programmes in front of Mysuru Palace will be performed by artists from local music and dance schools, said district in-charge Minister V. Srinivasprasad.
Central team to assess drought
The Centre has sent a team to drought-hit Karnataka for assessing damage to kharif crops, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said. The Karnataka government has declared drought in 27 districts out of 30, he said in New Delhi.
