Cabinet nod for light metro projects in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: The cabinet on Wednesday gave the administrative sanction for the light metro projects in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode. At the cabinet briefing, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that the state government would write to the centre seeking in-principle approval for the project soon.
“We have modified the letter sent to the centre earlier. The two additions are administrative sanction and in-principle approval. Once we get in-principle approval from the centre, the remaining decisions required for implementing the project will be taken subsequently,” he added.
He said the light metro projects would be implemented on the lines of Kochi Metro. The Kochi Metro project was carried out by the DMRC and it would be the same in this case as well, he added.
Other decisions
The cabinet decided to sign an MoU for the takeover of ESI medical college, Paripally. The ownership of the hospital will remain with the government on lease term for 99 years.
Out of the total cost of Rs 540 crore as part of the takeover, so for Rs 321 crore had been spent. Eighteen non-teaching posts created in Kannur University.
Feeding charge for nursery schools under SC/ ST department raised from Rs 10 to Rs 30 per day. No hike in the prices of raw material to be supplied for Hindustan Newsprint Limited this year. Investors of KSFE staff cooperative society to be repaid. The KSFE asked to provide Rs 11.80 crore immediately to the KSFE staff cooperative society which will be utilised for paying back the investors’ money. Loans up to Rs 1 lakh that are having arrears and have exceeded repayment period starting from April 1, 2006 to March 31, 2014 will be written off.
