Bengaluru: NE association members seek resignation of inspector
Bengaluru: Members of the Thadou Student's Association, Bengaluru (TSA-B) met Home Minister K.J. George and submitted a memorandum demanding a thorough investigation against Indiranagar police for assaulting peaceful protesters belonging to the Northeastern community on August 4 after a three-year-old preschooler was sexually assaulted by the school watchman on the school premises the previous day.
They demanded the immediate suspension of Indiranagar Police Inspector Manjunath Shetty for assaulting the protesters and transfer of DCP (East) N. Sathish Kumar for behaving inappropriately during the protest and not visiting the spot while the police were assaulting them.
The members said they had gathered in front of the school in Indiranagar to talk to school authorities. “But the meeting didn't settle any of the issues, because of the stand taken by the Principal and Secretary of the School who claimed that ‘The incident didn’t take place inside the school premises.’ They also claimed that nothing happened in the school. This indifferent attitude invited more people to join the protest.”
Mr L. Venugopal, Assistant Commissioner of Police, cited POCSO Act, 2012 and informed Mr Michael Haokip, President, TSA-B, to disperse from near the school.
“We were moving away from the school and were looking for buses and autos near the Indiranagar Metro Station when the women police pushed and assaulted us,” alleged Mr Haokip, who met the home minister.
“Mr Manjunath Shetty, the Inspector of Indiranagar Police Station, slapped an innocent man without any reason. Also, on the night of incident at Bowring Hospital, Mr Shetty, stated that such injury on the sexually abused child’s private part can happen during playtime,” he said.
