8 million-litre treated water up for sale daily in Telangana

HMDA is ready to sell the water at Rs 35 per kilo litre
Hyderabad: With HMDA’s Buddha Purnima Project setting up three filling stations, water treated by the sewage treatment plant on Necklace Road is ready for sale.
The water is treated at the 30-million-litre-a-day sewage treatment plant along the Necklace Road. South Central Railways is currently purchasing the treated water.
Buyers will have to send their own tankers to the filling stations. HMDA is ready to sell the water at Rs 35 per kilo litre and treated water will be available throughout the year.
The filling stations are located at Necklace Road, the 20-MLD STP and Sanjeevaiah Park. Under the Hussainsagar Lake and Catchment Improvement Programme, 50 million litres of sewage water from different drains is being treated daily at the treatment plants.
Of this, 35 MLD is allowed into the lake to maintain the water level. Of the remaining 15 MLD, 7.10 MLD is required for gardening and landscaping of HMDA amusement parks surrounding Hussainsagar. The remaining 8 MLD will be available for sale.
The treated water contains dissolved oxygen less than 3 milligrams per litre (mg/l), residual chlorine from 0.1 to 0.2 mg/l and other elements like nitrogen, phosphorus, coliform and suspended solids.
It can be used for irrigation, construction, gardening, etc. The three stations together will have the capacity to fill 1,000 tankers (of 10 kilo litres) per day. Each station will have four filling points.
