Man suffering from constipation for 10 years has 11lb stool removed from colon

A man in China, who had been suffering from stomach pain for a decade, had actually had an 11lb stool stuck in his colon for ten years. Doctors at the Second People’s Hospital in Chengdu, capital of south-west Chian’s Sichuan Province have now successfully removed it through surgery.

The medical staff carried out a several X-rays and scans to ascertain the man’s mysterious stomach ache, according to the South China Morning Post. They found that the 27-year-old was suffering from ‘congenital megacolon’. In this condition, the large intestine dilates and sometimes the colon muscles get paralysed. As the colon muscles are not able to contract and relax to push faeces through the intestine, the waste becomes stuck and the person feels constipated.

However, in extreme cases, a ‘megacolon’ could even lead to ‘faecal tumours’. The only way to get rid of these hard masses inside the colon is to have the, surgically removed.
