‘Ganguro’ fashion trend from the 90s makes a comeback in Japan

Visitors at the Tokyo cafe can also enjoy 'Ganguro'-themed treats

A Tokyo café is offering visitors a taste of the 1990s with their ‘Ganguro’ inspired get-ups. The Ganguro trend defied ‘traditional’ Japanese beauty norms and had had women wearing colourful make-up, deep tans and bold outfits.

The staff of the Ganguro Café and Bar at Shibuya flaunt brightly multicoloured hairstyles, eccentric food-inspired nail art and extreme make-up. The different specialty services at the café include photo opportunities with the staff and even have their make up done in the Ganguro style. The spot has quickly become popular among both locals and foreigners.

Visitors can also treat themselves to Ganguro Balls (fried takoyaki style sausage balls in black squid ink batter), octopus balls and dumplings over there, according to the Daily Mail.
