BBM graduate who made her silver screen debut with Huchhudugaru, is excited about her upcoming

Like many starry eyed teens, it was this girl’s childhood dream to become an actor. Studies took precedence owing to her parents’ emphasis on the importance of academics. But, she finally got into films with a cracker of a debut. Aditi Rao, a BBM graduate who made her silver screen debut with Huchhudugaru, directed by RJ-turned-director Pradeep, is excited about her upcoming slew of projects, of which two – Akira and Dove – are ready to hit the screens while she shoots for another project, Dasara Gombe.
“I always wanted to be an actor but for obvious reasons, my parents kept me busy with studies. However, while I was pursuing college, someone pointed me towards an audition for a small screen project. I got through the audition, and bagged two back-to-back serials. Thereafter, it took almost a year to get into movies. In fact, Dove is my first film. There was quite a lot of expectation riding on this film, because the director Santhu, who gave a mega hit like Alemari was returning with this venture,” says Aditi, who graduated from Presidency College.
She recollects how she enjoyed special attention during college, something which eventually resulted in her missing a few classes so that she had to study on her own to finish her degree. “From day one in college, I was known for my acting. I still remember when I used to attend taxation classes, my lecturer would make references to me, saying that I was already paying income tax! I am also planning to pursue higher studies, but that now depends on the shooting schedule,” adds Aditi who coincidentally plays a college-goer in Dove, opposite Anup.
In Akira, she is paired opposite Anish and they are directed by Naveen. Aditi will be portraying a mature girl who takes care of an old-age home which provides the setting for the two characters to fall in love. In Dasara Gombe, however, she will be seen in a typical Gowda family set up — which provides the backdrop for a love story that has taken on several shades.
Despite getting several offers from neighbouring industries, Aditi says that she is keen on staying in Sandalwood and making the local industry the base of her acting career. “I started on small screen, and though it was different compared to movies, the love and affection on the sets is the same. We did a lot of innovative promotions during Huchhudugaru, and I am still known to many because of it. A majority of my small screen fans request me to do more Kannada films, and not shift to other languages,” says the actress.
Being the sole girl child in her family, Aditi grew up with a lot of attention showered on her. “I was brought up a tomboy and only started behaving like a girl after joining an all-girls schools,” she laughs.
She adds that it is her mother, and family (who are more excited than her about her filmi debut) who constantly support her in all her endeavours. “My elder brother is a movie buff and is very protective about me. He keeps enquiring about my films through my mother,” she laughs. Before wrapping up, the actress reveals that she practices yoga regularly, as it allows her to stay fit without having to rely upon gymming — something that is hard to come by while shooting.
