‘Nayan did not have any qualms playing a mother’
After a long time, top rung actress Nayanthara tasted success with her recent blockbuster hit Thani Oruvan that had Jayam Ravi in the lead. The anticipation for her forthcoming Tamil film Maya, an unadulterated horror movie, has soared high with Nayan playing the female lead and mother of a four-year-old child.
Produced by Prabhu of Potential Studios, the film is directed by debutant Ashwin and has a young team of technicians including cinematographer Sathyan and music composer Ron. Ashwin says he was very apprehensive whether Nayanthara would accept the character, which required her to play a mother. “Initially, it started off as a small project. Then one day my producer Prabhu suggested that we have a big actress playing the central character. After discussing many names, he said Nayanthara would be apt for it. I was really hesitant, worried if Nayan would accept the role of a mother. When I narrated the script to her, she loved it but asked for a day’s time to confirm. I thought that she was not keen on acting as a mother. Her reply was something else, though! She asked me ‘I have no issues on that! I have already acted as the mother of two kids in a Telugu movie. It’s just that I am taking time to check my dates given to other films.”
“Nayan was also very cooperative when I told her that we want her to use minimal makeup. Her energy level on the sets is remarkable.” Though the director was unwilling to reveal if Nayan is a ghost in the movie, our sources say Maya is the ghost’s name in the film and Nayan essays a model and there are different dimensions to her character.
