RJ-turned-actor Shiva is quite excited to play a crucial role in Masala Padam
RJ-turned-actor Shiva, who was last seen in Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi’s directorial venture Vanakkam Chennai, is quite excited to play a crucial role in Masala Padam, which deals with the subject of filmmaking and movie criticism.
Asked to talk about what has occupied his time in the two years after the release of Vanakkam Chennai, he says, “I was busy writing my own stories. One will be a family drama and the other one will be a comedy. Everything has been conceptualised,” says Shiva, and adds that he has the aim of producing and directing movies in future. What drew him to Masala Padam? “The film’s director Lakshman and I are good friends. The film tries to present a filmmakers’ innovative take on ‘masala’, aka the mixed genre. Every character in the film represents a major element of a masala film such as romance, sentiment, action, comedy, which will be a major draw with family audience. When a person, comes out of a theatre, he discusses his views with his friends about the film. I think that from a filmmaker’s point of view, it’s tough to present such things to the audience,” says Shiva.
Next up he has CV Kumar’s film 144, which is a crime comedy based in a rural area. “We have just five days of shooting left,” adds Shiva. What kinds of roles would he want to do? “I want to be a part of films that are different and away from the mainstream rot. Serious roles don’t interest me and I have always thought that humour is my biggest strength. If good roles come my way, I might do them,” he tells us. And his future plans? “The success I had as an RJ helped my launch in Kollywood. As of now, I want to equip myself technically. But producing films is my long-term plan,” Shiva signs off.
