New York: Indo-Swiss duo of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis defeated ninth seeds Yung-Jan Chan and Hao-Ching Chan of Chinese Taipei to reach US Open semifinal on Wednesday.
Sania and Martina were trailing 0-5 in the first set against their Chinese Taipei opponents but came back strong to clinch the set 7-6. In the second set too, they gave no chances to their opponents to win it 6-1.
The Wimbledon winners won all their breakpoints to make life on the court tough for their opponents. They took only 35 minutes to clinch the second set and book a place in the semis.
Earlier, Sania and Martina eased past 13th seeded Dutch-Czech pair of Michaella Krajicek and Barbora Strycova 6-3, 6-0 to enter the quarterfinal in a contest which lasted only 59 minutes. The duo put up a dominating performance by holding their serve all through in their previous match.
