TRS slams Congress over criticism on farmer deaths
Hyderabad: The TRS lashed out at the Congress for its venomous attack on the government over farmers’ suicides besides other programmes and policies of the government.
TRS MP and politburo member Balka Suman said the party would welcome constructive criticism but would not tolerate unwarranted and baseless allegations by the Opposition.
Expressing anguish over farmers’ suicides and seeking support of the Opposition in redressing their problems, he questioned how the Congress could blame the 15-month-old TRS government when the party itself failed to solve the problem during its 10-year rule recently and in earlier decades.
“What did the Congress do to stop farmers’ suicides? Why did it not implement the Swaminathan Committee report which made several recommendations for the welfare of farmers? Congress leaders who are now making a noise were the ones who agreed to forgo Hyderabad for bifurcation, but it was Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao who said no, launched a hunger strike and achieved Telangana state,” he said.
“It is shocking that Komatreddy Venkat Reddy, who siphoned off funds in the Mid-Manair project, Bhatti Vikramarka and other tainted leaders are talking ill of the government. Do they want us to expose their black deeds? Everyone knows how Jalayagnam was turned into Dhanayagnam,” he alleged.
He said all parties should extend support to the TRS government in tackling farmers’ suicides instead of indulging in blame game.
He took potshots at Mr Kishan Reddy saying the BJP leader should stage a dharna at 7 RCR in New Delhi — the residence of the PM — seeking national project status for an irrigation project in Telangana on the lines of Polavaram, bifurcation of the High Court and special financial package and incentives to the new state instead of wasting time on padayatras here.
