Rains big relief for now
Hyderabad: Heavy rains in Kurnool and Mahbubnagar districts in the local catchment areas of Krishna and Tungabhadra have eased the drinking water situation, at least temporarily, for Hyderabad and many parts of Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar, Kurnool and Anantapur districts.
For the first time in the season, the Srisailam dam, which had not received a single drop of water till Tuesday, is set to receive inflows in the range of 40,000 cusecs to 70,000 cusecs by Wednesday, bringing relief to the authorities who had been depleting the dead storage water for the last few days to ensure release of water for the Nagarjunasagar dam to maintain the 510-ft level for Hyderabad’s drinking water needs.
The Sunkesula barrage in Kurnool on Tungabhadra river started receiving heavy floodwater since Monday due to heavy rains in local catchment area. The inflow increased from 40,000 cusecs to 1.6 lakh cusecs within 24 hours.
