Hyderabad: The southwest monsoon has become active over Telangana in the last 24 hours, with moderate to heavy rains being recorded at several places in the state.
Isolated heavy rainfall was also recorded in some parts of Andhra Pradesh and the heavy rainfall warning for the two states has been continued for two more days.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rains would occur at isolated places in Andhra Pradesh and all Telangana districts except Mahbubnagar.
On Tuesday, Andhra Pradesh’s Komarada mandal of Vizianagaram district recorded the maximum rainfall, at 7 cm, followed by Venkatagiri Kota of Chittoor district at 6 cm.
In Telangana, Sriramsagar Pocha of Nizamabad district recorded the maximum rainfall of 10 cm followed by Suryapet mandal (Nalgonda) at 8 cm, Sarangapur mandal (Karimnagar), Miryalaguda mandal (Nalgonda) and Nirmal (Adilabad) at 7 cm rainfall each.
Meanwhile, President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday condoled the loss of lives due to heavy rains and lightning in different parts of Andhra Pradesh. The President called upon the state government and other authorities to provide all possible aid to the bereaved families as well as medical assistance to the injured.
Three persons were killed on Monday in two rain-related incidents in Kadapa. As many as 19 people died on Sunday after they were struck by lightning in separate incidents in five districts of the state which were lashed by heavy rains.
