Three commit suicide over debts in Nalgonda district

Two more debt-ridden farmers committed suicide in Telangana on Monday

Hyderabad: A debt-ridden handloom weaver committed suicide at Bhoodaan Pochampally village in Nalgonda district on Monday. Pagudaala Nagesh, 33, ended his life by hanging himself at his home. Locals said Nagesh, who is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter, was distressed over mounting debts.

He took the drastic step being unable to repay the debts due to his meagre income. Two more debt-ridden farmers committed suicide in Telangana on Monday. These incidents came to light in Warangal and Nizamabad.

Bhukya Haathiraam, a 45 year-old tribal farmer from Gundlakunta thanda in Manukota mandal in Warangal districts, committed suicide by hanging himself as he was unable to bear the losses incurred on account of crop failure due to drought.

He had borrowed money from local money lenders and sown green gram on four acres which withered due to drought. He was distressed on account of crop failure and resorted to this extreme step.

Pinja Bhaskar, a 54 year-old farmer from Armoor in Nizambad district, also committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in his field. He owned two acres of agricultural land and took loans from local money lenders and had sown crops, which failed due to poor monsoon. Unable to repay the debts, he committed suicide, locals said.
