Registrars to lose colonial vestige
Hyderabad: Sub-registrars’ offices in Telangana are all set to shrug off their colonial image wherein the sub-registrars sit on chairs placed on elevated platforms.
The TS government has asked the revenue department to remove the platforms and ensure that the sub-registrars sit on the floor level, like other staff.
Nearly 85 new sub-registrar offices are being built in the districts without the platform.
“These initiatives are part of the reforms being introduced by the state government. All sub-registrars’ offices will be modernised and there will be no platforms for sub-registrars. They will sit on chairs placed on the floor level like the other staff," said Deputy Chief Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali.
Mr Ali released the handbook of the Stamps and Registrations department at the Secretariat on Monday.
The initiative to remove the platforms was launched in August and platforms were removed in 13 offices. But the process was halted midway after the staff told the government that a majority of the offices operated from rented premises and since they would soon be shifting to their own buildings, changing things now would be impractical.
Mr Ali said that while there are 141 sub-registrars’ offices in TS, only eight were functioning from their own buildings.
“The process to construct own buildings for 86 sub-registrars’ offices has been initiated. The government has sanctioned Rs 53 crore for the purpose,” he added.
