More DEMU trains to Angamaly

The passenger associations have demanded that an additional City Service be operated upto Angamaly in the evening

Kochi: There is good news for office goers and daily commuters travelling to Ernakulam from Angamaly region as the Southern Railways will soon operate more ‘City DEMU’ services to the station during peak hours.

“Heeding to the demands of commuters, we are extending the morning service from Tripunithura to Aluva (Train No 06732) till Angamaly. We also expect a lot of people would travel to Ernakulam on the return trip (Train No 06733). This means the schedule of other services would change by 10 to 15 minutes. We are working on it,” said P.L. Ashok Kumar, senior divisional operations manager.

Currently, Train No 06732 starts from Tripunithura at8.10 am to reach Aluva station by 9.05 am. In the return direction, Train No 06733 leaves from Aluva at 9.45 am towards Ernakulam Junction at 10.30 am.

Already the services starting from Ernakulam at 12.15 pm (Train No 06734) and that at 3.10 pm (Train No 06736) operate upto Angamaly.

Meanwhile, the passenger associations have demanded that an additional City Service be operated upto Angamaly in the evening, which railway officials are considering.

This, after the change in schedule of the Ernakulam-Shoranur passenger (Train No 56608) from 6.05 pm to 5.40 pm.

“Following the change in timing of the passenger, now the railways could operate a City service after 6 pm upto Angamaly that would benefit hundreds of officer goers. There are less commuters during the afternoon service,” said R.D. Manikandan, co-ordinator, Edapally Railway Passenger Association.
