Mass transfers irk Air India officers

The mass transfer of officers without replacements could affect the supervisory jobs

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The mass transfer of 15 Air India officers from Thiruvananthapuram has sparked off a controversy with a section of employees alleging hidden motives behind the move.

While Air India senior officials justify the move as a normal administrative procedure, the affected officials allege that the transfers were made flouting norms and compassionate grounds, that too in the middle of an academic year.

Moreover, the mass transfer of officers without replacements could affect the supervisory jobs, especially with regard to key areas like checking excess cargo, it is alleged.

As many as 15 officers in the rank of assistant manager in the commercial wing of the airline in Thiruvananthapuram were transferred, nine to Kochi and the remaining six to Kozhikode, on September 3 for a period of one year. No replacements have been made for them in Thiruvananthapuram yet.

When contacted, AI general manager - personnel in Chennai, Mr. B.Vijayakumar, who issued the transfer order, said the transfers were just a routine administrative matter.

“All those who were transferred were elevated to the officer post recently. They had been working here for quite a long time and needed sufficient exposure. In order to minimise inconvenience, they were transferred within the state and that too for a year only,” he said.
