Latest tech key to farm productivity: Harsh Vardhan

Harsh Vardhan reiterated the need to take up research activities to improve agricultural production

COIMBATORE: Modern tools and scientific innovations should be used to enhance agricultural production under changing climatic conditions in the country, said Harsh Vardhan, Union minister for science, technology and earth sciences.

During his visit to Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) on Monday, Harsh Vardhan reiterated the need to take up research activities to improve agricultural production.

The minister had an overview of TNAU’s research, education and extension activities and also visited the centre for plant molecular biology and biotechnology, department of nano science and technology and post harvest technology centre.

Harsh Vardhan got to know on the research achievements as well as on-going activities in developing plant varieties, biotechnology, horticulture, microbiology, post-harvest processing and agri-business promotions by the scientists and students.

Besides interacting with students and scientists with keen interest, he also appreciated TNAU’s efforts in developing crop varieties that adapts itself to water deficit conditions and also to changing climatic conditions. He advised students to work hard to achieve their goals.
