Farmers sore over fall in tomato price in Anantapur

Anantapur: While onion prices reached its peak, tomato had a steep fall. Heart burning scenes are witnessing in many parts of the district following low prices of tomato. A farmer of Sankarappathota area near Kalyandurg had raised tomato in three acres.
He drilled six bore wells and succeeded in the sixth attempt after spending Rs 1.50 lakh on bore wells to develop three acres of land.
"In my first attempt, I took up tomato expecting attractive price, but even transport is also not possible to get due to low prices," he said.
The farmer was seen dumping tomatoes in the field feeding bullocks. The farmer lamented that price of a 30 kg of tomato basket is Rs 50 in local markets that would not recover even the transportation charges.
