Cut power, now cut our bill!
Bescom exceeds promised limit, load shedding 3 to 4 hours a day
Bengaluru: Officially, Bengaluru has only two hours of power cuts. But in reality, power shutdowns have been stretching up to four to five hours. What is worse is that these unscheduled power cuts and intermittent fluctuations are damaging electrical appliances worth lakhs of rupees in households across the city.
Domestic as well as industrial consumers have been affected by six to seven power cuts between from 6 am to 7 pm, and each power cut stretches anywhere between 15 minutes and one hour. Last year, Bescom had promised that all load shedding-related information would be sent to consumers through SMSs. But majority of the customers complain that they are not informed and that majority of the power cuts are unscheduled.
Industries have been hit hard by the power crisis, said Mr M.V. Prabhakar, chairman, Energy Committee, FKCCI. It will affect the productivity of industrial units, which will in turn reduce tax revenue inflow into the state’s coffers, he warned.
