CPM humiliated Guru, says BJP state chief V Muraleedharan

Mr Muraleedharan also demanded that the local body elections should be conducted before November 15

KOZHIKODE: The CPM in Kannur has humiliated Sree Narayana Guru and his disciples by displaying a float where the guru was shown as crucified, alleged BJP state president V. Muraleedharan.

Addressing a press meet here, he said CPM activists had also damaged a statue of Guru and tried to put the blame on BJP/RSS cadre.

He alleged that the CPM had used Bengali children to be dressed up as Krishna during their cultural procession on the occasion of Janmashtami.

BJP is happy that CPM carried out a march with children dressed up as Krishna, he said.

“We are pleased to see Krishna image being promoted, even if it is by CPM. We do not worry about them conducting cultural procession during Janmashtami,” Mr Muraleedharan said.

Demanding a police investigation into the damaging the Guru statue, he alleged that the CPM “stage-managed” the attack on Guru to target BJP/RSS.

"The issue is not related to SNDP but Sree Narayana Guru. CPM has not humiliated Vellappally Natesan but Sree Narayana Guru with such floats,” he said.

Mr Muraleedharan also demanded that the local body elections should be conducted before November 15.

“We have precedence of changing the dates of elections due to various reasons. The election is a democratic process that is bound to ensure participation of 100 percent of our citizens. If there is a situation that hampers such involvement, election dates can be changed,” he said.

“The Sabarimala pilgrimage season begins in November and the BJP cadres will not be in a position to concentrate on the local body polls if it is conducted in the second half of November.”
