Calicut University team to visit UGC authorities
KOZHIKODE: Following the UGC decision to de-recognise the distance education courses conducted by the Calicut University, a high-level team from the University will soon visit UGC authorities in Delhi.
Vice Chancellor Dr M.K Abdul Khader has called an emergency syndicate meeting to discuss the issue on September 11 and the Syndicate would finalise the steps to be taken to deal with the problem which jeopardizes the future of lakhs of students.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Dr M.K Abdul Khader said that the University would take strong steps to ensure recognition of courses conducted in its limit.
“We will follow the UGC direction to close the outstation centres and request the authorities to reinstate the status,” he said.
However he did not say whether he would take action against those who had sidelined the UGC's directions in the past.
“This is not the right time to do a post-mortem of something which the University should have done earlier. My priority is to ensure the future is safe for thousands of distance education students depending on the varsity,” he added.
The VC also said that though he was pressured from many corners to start distance education centres of Kannur University, but he did not allow it as it would be against UGC’s directions.
Syndicate Member Dr V.P Abdul Hameed said that a high-level team from the varsity would visit the UGC to sort out the issue amicably.
The UGC decision barring the University from conducting any distance education courses for the 2015-16 academic year came after the University ignored the UGC order to close the distance education centres functioning outside its jurisdiction.
