Police exhume body after receiving a ‘suicide video’

Pasha hanged himself at his residence in Ilyas Nagar
Bengaluru: A 35-year-old man’s body was exhumed in Ilyas Nagar in Banashankari on Monday after the police received a mobile video clip along with an anonymous complaint sent by one of the friends of the deceased. In the video clip, the deceased, Syed Ahmed Pasha, a mechanic, narrates his ordeal in the hands of two financiers who were the reason behind him taking the extreme step. But Pasha’s family members quietly buried him, calling it a natural death, fearing repercussions from the financiers. Pasha hanged himself at his residence in Ilyas Nagar on Sunday.
In a self-shot mobile video that lasts 1 minute and 13 seconds, moments before he hanged himself, Pasha accuses private financiers, Ansar and Imtiyaz, for pushing him to suicide. Pasha is seen in his room with a saree tied to the fan. He says, “I had borrowed money to set up a garage. But I had to sell it and even my bike to repay the loans. I have paid more than what I had borrowed, but Ansar and Imtiyaz continue to demand more money from me. Because of this torture, I have decided to end my life.” Pasha had sent the video on Whatsapp to his friend before hanging himself.
The Kumaraswamy Layout police took up a suo motu case and rushed to Syed’s house and enquired with his parents and other family members about the incident. “The family initially maintained that he died a natural death, but were mum when the video was shown to them. With the jurisdictional tahsildar and other inquest officials, we exhumed the body and sent it for postmortem," Mr Lokesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South division) said.
Based on the postmortem report, a criminal case will be taken up against the abettors, a police officer said. Pasha was driving an autorickshaw after he sold his garage, the police said.
