Google to help SMEs grow online
Launched earlier this year, 1.5 million businesses in India have already used the app to create their online presence
Mumbai: Google India on Monday announced a new initiative ‘Google Advantage” to provide deeper engagement to small and medium businesses who are looking to gain from the rising Internet user base in the country. It has committed to help 20 million small and medium businesses get a free online presence by 2017 through a mobile-based app called ‘Google My Business’.
Launched earlier this year, 1.5 million businesses in India have already used the app to create their online presence. Google has rolled out this programme across 14 cities in India with feet-on-street model and aims to get three million small and medium businesses online by end of this year.
“Through the new initiative, Google will host an offline symposium which 4,000 small and medium businesses will attend this week,” said Sapna Chadha, head, marketing, small and medium businesses. The symposium will educate small and medium businesses on the benefits of Internet and also provide one-on-one consultation on how to use the latest online tools and technologies and meet their business objectives. The format will help SMBs to share their challenges and learn directly from Google experts.
“Small and medium businesses in India have been a strategic focus for Google. In the last four years we have rolled out several initiatives that are aimed to equip small and medium businesses to get an online presence and use the digital platform to grow their business,” Ms Chadha said.
