American teacher battered to death with hammer in Nepal, body ditched in a river

Pokhara: An American art teacher, 27-year-old Dahlia Yehia, went missing in August after travelling to Nepal. Upon investigation, the police team have found that Yehia was apparently battered to death with a hammer and a ‘lathi', her body was then dumped into a river.

Yehia went to Nepal in August to help people rebuild their houses after the deadly earthquake that shook the country in April this year, as reported by The Daily Mail.

Yehia, from Kalamazoo, Michigan, travelled to the city of Pokhara in Nepal in August. The accused, named by police as Narayan Prasad Paudel, allegedly admitted battering Yehia to death with a hammer and a lathi - a metal-clad baton - as she slept in his house in Dhital village, near Pokhara.

Paudel also admitted that he contacted Yehia through the internet and invited her to stay in a rented room in Pokhara on an earthquake relief support programme.

Police said that while Paudel was being interrogated at the district police station about Yehia’s disappearance, he made an excuse that he wanted to use the toilet.

Released from handcuffs, he then allegedly made his way onto the roof and jumped off.

But he broke his leg and was quickly recaptured.

The motive for the crime is yet to be ascertained by the police and interrogations are still on.
