Moto G 3rd Gen review - The 'Rahul Dravid' of phones
Of late, smart phone manufacturers have been flooding the Indian market with ultra-slim, metallic phones -- some extremely lightweight – with good cameras, good sound, good graphics or all of them together. One company that has resisted size-zeroing its devices, while providing solid and non-metallic frames has been Motorola. Its successful re-entry into the Indian market with Moto G followed by Moto G 2nd generation is proof that there is a reasonably big market for solid, performance phones that are durable, not so light and not so high on ergonomics. The recently launched Moto G 3rd generation adds one more device to the line-up.
The new Moto G comes with with Android 5.1 Lollipop, 4G LTE support, a 1.4 GHz Snapdragon processor, 13 MP rear and 5 MP front camera, powered by a 2470 mAh battery, with dual SIM slots. One of the strongest criticisms of the 1st Moto G was the absence of expandable card slots. The latest device is available in two variants, 8GB storage with 1GB RAM and 16GB storage with 2GB RAM, with both variants supporting MicroSD cards. The 5-inch 720p HD display is crisp and size-wise, the phone slips very nicely into your palms. It has a very comfortable weight that justifies its specs, and doesn’t seem like a piece of equipment that will break very easily.
In its third avatar, Moto G has added a water resistance feature, meaning it can withstand a handful of rain drops, but obviously not a bucket of water. The first generation Moto G is still a favourite with a lot of smart phone users, though phones with better specs are being launched month after month. Considering the fact that the 3rd gen device looks and feels similar to its first version, the additional power and specs only seem to add to the already successful line-up. As long as you do not wish to own a piece of intricate art, Moto G 3rd gen is a good phone, which can withstand considerable heavy use and a few freak falls to the ground. The 8GB variant is priced at Rs. 11,999 and the 16GB variant at Rs. 12,999.
