Vizhinjam pact signing may be deferred

The all party meeting scheduled to be held on Monday is likely to discuss the postponement of the inauguration

Thiruvananthapuram: The State Government is likely to postpone the inauguration of the construction of the Vizhinjam International Transshipment Terminal scheduled on November 1, Kerala Piravi day, to December in view of the local body elections.

This is because the state election commission has expressed its reservation over signing of the agreement in November as the elections are scheduled to be held that month.

The all party meeting scheduled to be held on Monday is likely to discuss the postponement of the inauguration.

The postponement of the inauguration of the construction may derail the commitment made by Gautam Adani, chairman of Adani Group of companies, at the function to sign the concession agreement for the development of Vizhinjam project that the port would be operational in 1000 days.

Mr Adani made this announcement during the signing ceremony between the State Government and Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Limited CEO Santosh Kumar Mohapatra on Monday, Chingam 1, the Malayalam New Year day at Durbar Hall.
