KOZHIKODE: Ayurveda expert Shivaraman Vaidyar has received the patent for his invention of a pharmacologically active herbal composition effective against Rhabdovirus.
The Ayurveda medicine he developed after many years of efforts can eliminate rabies virus.
“I have developed the medicine purely from the Ayurveda herbs and the medicine has helped plenty of people to come back to their life, which was the motivation for me to register officially for the patent to develop the drug and make it easily available in the market,” he said.
Rhabdovirus, which causes rabies, belongs to the order Mononegavirales, viruses with a non-segmented, negative-stranded RNA genomes.
It is an acute and highly fatal viral disease of the central nervous system caused by Lyssavirus type. Hence the medicine was developed keeping in mind of all the seriousness of the virus, he added.
“The treatment in Ayurveda begins after we correctly identify the virus, then only the medicines will actively work on the patient, and we believe that in next 36 hours of medication, good signs of response will be seen in the patient,” he said.
“We have used herbs that are easily available and the very next day after the attack of an animal, we start the treatment with these herbs.”
