Rains throw life out of gear in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Heavy showers brought parts of Hyderabad to a standstill on Sunday.
While the rains brought respite from the heat, many citizen’s Sunday plans were washed away as it rained heavily for around two hours from 3 pm and continued till late evening. In Bairamalguda, LB Nagar, a five-year-old girl was rescued from drowning in a Nala by the citizens.
In Chaderghat PS limits, the boundary wall of an old house fell following the heavy rains. However, no injuries were reported. Strong winds and rain resulted in big branches falling on high-tension wires in Vanasthalipuram and five colonies plunged into darkness. With no power, and rainwater entering the houses, citizens had a tough time towards night.
Waterlogging, raging stormwater and potholes made driving hazardous.
The city appeared battered despite GHMC reiterating that zonal officials of all the 18 circles were fully prepared and nearly 51 emergency handling teams were working. The waterlogged roads spoke of the failure in the functioning of the teams launched as part of the monsoon preparedness drive. Heavy rains were seen in Rajendranagar, Tolichowki, Langer Houz, Banjara Hills and is likely to continue for the next 24 hours.
