CPM wants poll in October
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Communist Party of India (Marxist), which wants the civic polls held next month, has urged the State Election Commission (SEC) to declare the election dates tomorrow itself.
Addressing a press meet here on Sunday on the eve of the all-party meet called by the SEC, party secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said it would remain firm on its stand at the meet.
“The model code of conduct should be announced tomorrow itself. Of course, the SEC is liable to abide by the High Court directives,” he said.
He alleged that when the government should be helping the Election Commission in holding smooth and fair elections, it is, in fact, creating trouble.
Mr Balakrishnan also alleged that the government wanted to delay the elections further citing Sabarimala pilgrimage season beginning in November.
“This is nothing but a ploy to delay the polls indefinitely. The government’s intention is to bring in administrator’s rule so that it would be easy for them to take over LDF-ruled panchayats. We are aware that the UDF has already prepared a list of officials,” he claimed.
He denied reports of the CPM celebrating Sree Krishna Jayanthi saying it was Onam celebrations that held in Kannur under the aegis of Balasangham.
He claimed that spiritualism and materialism will not complement each other, and it was a secular programme.
