SmartCity Kochi to launch first phase in December
Kochi: Here is one more date for the launch of the first phase of SmartCity, Kochi, Kerala’s dream project: somewhere between December 10 and 20, 2015. Or at least that is what the board of directors of the company would like the people to believe.
A meeting of the board in the SmartCity pavilion on Saturday decided to launch the second phase of the project which aims at constructing 47 lakh sq ft of built up space at a cost of Rs 400 crore on the same day. The second phase will be able to accommodate more than 40,000 IT professionals.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told reporters after the board meeting that the first phase of 6.5 lakh sq ft, built at cost of Rs 280 crore, will generate up to 6,000 employment.
“SmartCity will meet all the commitment it had made in the memorandum of understanding it signed with the government,” he said.
Industries minister P.K. Kunhalikutty, who is the chairman of SmartCity, vice-chairman Jaber Bin Hafez, excise minister K Babu, chief secretary Jiji Thomson, IT principal secretary P.H. Kurian and SmartCity CEO Dr Baju George attended the meet.
