Hyderabad: The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samiti conducted a sagar parikrama (tour around Hussainsagar) starting from the Telugu Talli statue Saturday.
General secretary of the Utsav samiti Dr Bhagwant Rao demanded that the Telangana government to change the name of Hussainsagar to Vinayaksagar.
“A campaign is spreading information that the immersion of Ganesh idols is the main cause of pollution in the lake. This is baseless because throughout the year several nalas discharge industrial waste and sewage into the lake. Blaming the immersion of idols is a shameful act, despite knowing the reason for pollution, It is the negligence of the Pollution Control Board and civic authorities. Certain anti-Hindu forces are carrying out this campaign in the name of environmental and social activities.”
Dr Rao also demanded that the government release a white paper on the reasons for the pollution in the Hussainsagar.
