Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee meet after organisational poll
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: V. M. Sudheeran is firm on convening KPCC executive committee only after the completion of organisational elections.
The meeting is due on Sept 8 and the block, mandalam and DCC representatives are currently being appointed on a war footing.
It was when former Chief Minister K. Karunakaran left the Congress in 2004 that organisational elections had taken place the last time.
Sudheeran was firm in his stand that the lower strata of the party be reorganised so that the party gets leeway in the imminent local body elections.
But the biggest headache for him and the party is how to remove office-bearers clinging on to their ‘seats’ for close to two and three decades.
Initially, Mr Sudheeran was against antagonising the leaders. He later changed his stand.
“KPCC executive was initially decided to be held on Sept 4. But Congress leadership realised that the organisational elections would not be completed by then and extended the executive to Sept 8. But it is a clear victory for Mr Sudheeran who spearheaded the election process,” said a senior Congress leader.
Mr Sudheeran informed the DCCs that he had already spoken to the AICC leadership in Delhi and that he would intervene in the electoral process directly, sending a strong message down the party cadre.
He also appointed steering committees in all districts to expedite the electoral process in DCCs. Except in Idukki and Thrissur districts, appointments have been made at the level of block presidents.
A top Congress source told DC that the next step before the Congress leadership was to kick off the reorganisation at DCC levels that would be completed within ten days. So far, Kasaragod and Wayanad DCCs have been revamped.
