Cheers! Tejasri to go home after 112 days at hospital in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: Ten-year-old K. Tejasri will finally go home in a couple of days ending her 112 days battle with life threatening injuries all over her body. The school going girl was a victim of a collision between two RTC buses on May 16, 2015 on Kondapally Highway. The girl who was crushed in the accident received severe injuries on her head, neck, lungs, legs, abdomen and other parts and was rushed to nearby hospital. Her aunt Y Lakshmi, 35, who accompanied her that day, died on the spot.
According to doctors who treated the girl at Andhra Hospitals, Tejasri underwent 10 surgeries in three- and-a- half months besides being on ventilator for around six weeks, which is rare.
Tejasri, daughter of K. Mastan and K. Ragamalika, is a native of Redddyg-udem in Krishna district. There was a mere five per cent chance that Tejasri could be saved and a team of more than six doctors from the hospital and a senior doctor from APSRTC worked round the clock to save Tejasri, said Dr P.V. Rama Murthy of the hospital in a press conference.
The Orthopaedic surgeons implanted antibiotic beads in the left leg to cure infection inside the tissue and saved her from losing the leg. Unfortunately, her right leg had to be amputated in a few days after she was admitted in hospital as it was badly crushed.
RTC senior medical officer Dr V Swarna Kumari said that had the doctors not used antibiotic beads, Tejasri could have lost her other leg too. RTC extended all support to the girl and we shall ensure she is fixed with an artificial leg, she said.
Tejasri's mother Malika said that she lost her sister in the accident but fortunately could save her daughter with the help of doctors. Doctors said Tejasri can go home in a couple of days.
